What is Canadian CourseReadings?

A digital collection of over 1,300 Canadian authored books, our website focuses on Canadian content and perspectives and provides useful resources for university courses. Our mission is to make these readings easily discoverable and accessible to faculty and students.

Who is Canadian CourseReadings?

We are a non-profit consortium of 28 independent Canadian publishers who want to make it easy for you to access valuable Canadian-authored content.
Access:

How do I gain access to the reading material?

Trent University faculty and students have free access to the collection when logged in to their Omni account. You can access our website through the Trent digital library to gain access to all of the readings on our site.

Will I lose access to a chapter after a certain period of time? Is there a limit on downloading PDFs?

Access is unrestricted and unlimited, as long as you’re signed in to your Omni account. There are no limitations on downloading PDFs.

How much does it cost to access readings?

They’re free! The Trent University Library has worked with us to provide you with this valuable resource at no cost for the 2024-2025 academic school year.

Making use of chapters as course readings:

How can professors add a chapter from the collection to their course reading list?

A: Simply add the permalink of the chosen chapter to your syllabus (or on the course Blackboard page). Your students will have automatic, simultaneous access to that reading and every other chapter in the collection.

How do students access their required readings?

Students can access their required reading through the permalink found within the course syllabus or on Blackboard. They will have permanent access via the link but they can also download a PDF of the chapter for their convenience.

Searching the site for material:

How do I find reading material on your site?

You can use the “keyword” search or the list of categories on the left-hand side of the homepage.
The categories have been created to reflect university departments, and the sub-categories represent key subjects and topics that are taught within those disciplines. All of our chapters have been categorized according to the courses they are likely to be taught within.

How does the “keyword” search bar work?

The keyword search bar is an advanced tool that uses your keyword to find matching results within titles and descriptions at both the book and chapter levels.

I’m a professor who wants to find relevant titles, but who doesn’t have the time to search. Can someone on your team help?

We are more than happy to provide you with a list of recommendations catered to your teaching interests. We even provide syllabus mapping services (for free!), where we match topics in your course outline to chapters in our collection.
