This chapter focuses on the archetypes that can be found in modern populism including The First Citizen of the Empire, the National Defender, the Holy Crusader and the Conspirator-in-Chief. The chapter also providers an understanding of populist voters and why they are drawn to the four archetypes.
Daniel Drache is professor emeritus of political science and senior research fellow at the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University in Toronto. He is the author of over twenty books on social policy and international affairs. He lives in Toronto.
