The author argues that leftist critics are right in their anti-state condemnation of multiculturalism, but wrong to not see how popular groups – everyday Canadians – make multiculturalism work for them in their neighbourhoods, schools, and other public spaces (as well as in intercultural marriages and homes). He proposes several practical amendments to the Constitution of Canada that could bring Canadian society closer to realizing the worthwhile dream of a veritable multiracial, multicultural, and multi-faith Canada.
