Part 1 of this title consists of three lectures by feminist scholar Silvia Federici. In this lecture, Federici discusses the role of the body in the evolution of the feminist movement. She discusses how capitalism reduces women to being nothing more than bodies lacking agency. She argues that to make progress we need to recognize different forms of exploitation and regain control of the narrative of how we concieve of our bodies.

Silvia Federici

Silvia Federici is a feminist writer, teacher, and militant. In1972, she was cofounder of the International Feminist Collective, which launched the Wages for Housework campaign. In the 1990s, after a period of teaching and research in Nigeria, she was active in the anti-globalization movement and the U.S. anti–death penalty movement. She is one of the cofounders of the Committee for Academic Freedom in Africa. From 1987 to 2005, she taught international studies, women’s studies, and political philosophy courses at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY.
