Section one, Politics and Promises, is a collection of writings in response to and in critique of headlines about political events related to Indigenous peoples in Canada, including some headlines from Indigenous sources. She re-examines the Assembly of First Nations’ political work, the problems of having a First Nations person serve in the role of Minister of Indian Affairs, how Trudeau will move reconciliation forward or not, Trudeau’s lack of commitment to the rights of Indigenous women, Trudeau’s lack of budgetary commitment to a nation-to-nation relationship approach to First Nations, and the lack of focus on Indigenous issues in the 2019 election.
