Queer and Trans Approaches Revisited: Resisting Colonial Binaries in the Service of Social Justice
Section 12: Queer Theories and Transgender Theories
From: Critical Social Work Praxis
$0.70
Commentary on previous chapters and questions for critical thought. Michele Fairbairn argues in her commentary that queer and trans theories are congruent with social work and, in fact, can help it realize its justice and social transformation mandate. Yet, as Fairbairn also argues, social work has not always incorporated queer theories in meaningful ways, and as a result, it has remained steeped in homonormative values and their implicit connection to whiteness.
