Situating Anti-Black Racism and Racism Through a Critical Race Theory Lens: Commentary on Social Work Theory and Practice
Section 8: Critical Race Theory
From: Critical Social Work Praxis
$1.10
Commentary on previous chapters and questions for critical thought. In her commentary, Delores Mullings argues that social work needs to critically engage with racism in general, and with anti-Black racism in particular, in order to advance social work’s social justice agendas. She advocates for the centralization of scholarship produced by Black and racialized scholars as a way to resist the impulse to deny, erase or decentralize racism, and to whiten concepts such as counter-narrative. Most importantly, Mullings proposes that CRT can be used to dismantle anti-Black racism in social work and to understand and ally ourselves with current and urgent demands to end racism and racial violence.
