Where Does Agroecological Food Come From

New!

From: Growing and Eating Sustainably

$3.80

This chapter begins by considering food produced by the industrial food system that has been called “food from nowhere". In contrast, agroecological food comes from “somewhere” — it is possible to trace back to a specific farm and farmer. Many of the Brazilian farmers in this book are members of the Ecolife Network, one of the world’s first official grassroots participatory guarantee systems, which goes beyond technical farming practices by incorporating broader ecological concerns and considering social and political dynamics. Agroecological growing is described in family farms, and collectives, and agroecological harvesting is described while accessing public and, controversially, private land.
