A Call for Radical Healing

Integrating healing into Critical Race Education

New!

From: Decolonizing Equity

$2.00

In chapter 7, Ozioma Aloziem uses Critical Race Theory (CRT) to offer a framework for radical healing and to argue for the implementation of an emancipatory and embodied kind of education. Radical imagination invites us to consider a different approach to healing. Radical healing understands that complete change is necessary, that we don’t accommodate to systemic oppression but resist and transform through growth and healing. We cannot have justice or a decolonized society if we don’t reclaim and repair the human spirit. This chapter explores the work of queer BIPOC healers, teachers, cultural workers, grassroots activists, and leaders and explores topics including the limitations of our current education system and the current frameworks used to promote equity within them, decolonizing our educational spaces, and equitable educational environment.

Ozioma Aloziem

Ozioma (Ozy) Aloziem, MSW is an Igbo scholar situated at the intersection of multiple ways of knowing. Originally raised on Omaha land, she has been a visitor on Arapaho and Cheyenne territories since 2015. As a critical Black Feminist, Ozy prioritizes racial and gender equity in her scholarship and activism. She uses this focus to amplify voices of marginalized communities that are left on the fringes of both academic research and global conversation. Ozy believes in engaging in critical research as a radical act of freedom. Presently, her research is centred around radical healing, liberatory pedagogy, and Black women’s well-being.
