A Post-Structural Praxis: Contesting the Subordinating Practices of Community Engagement
Section 7: Poststructuralism: Language, Discourse, Power
From: Critical Social Work Praxis
$1.90
The author draw on excerpts from her study of the social relations of community-based research to illustrate what a poststructural analysis offers to community-engaged praxis. Poststructuralism draws our attention to how subject-making and discursive practices structure the relations and processes of community engagement, as well as the outcomes of our work. Consequently, the author sees poststructural critique not only as a prelude to social action but as a practice of resistance to dominant norms and an intervention into what is thinkable and doable in community-engaged praxis.
