The concept and implementation of community service orders are presented as a practical alternative to imprisonment. The chapter also puts forward the rationale for the call for more viable and functional alternatives to imprisonment (ATI). In addition, the chapter draws on lessons from African countries where such ATI measures have been implemented.

He has considerable years of experience working with civil society organizations, specifically working in the areas relating to penal reform, human rights, and peacebuilding in Africa, and specifically Nigeria. He currently lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.
