Campus Palestine Activism in Ottawa from the 1970s to the 2010s

In Chapter 9, Hassan Husseini examines the history of Palestinian Activism on University campuses in Ottawa from the 1970s to the 2010s. Husseini focuses on the work of Palestine solidarity activism on the campuses of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The chapter discusses the movements of 3 main periods, (i) 1975–1990: Arab Students’ Activism, (ii) 1990–2005: Anti-Occupation/Anti-War Student Activism, and (iii) 2005–2010s: BDS Student Activism. Each section discusses the main characteristics of the movement, its composition, political orientation, key political campaigns, and how effective it was in achieving its goals are all discusses.

Emily Regan Wills is an associate professor of comparative politics at the University of Ottawa. She is the co-director of the Community Mobilization in Crisis project, which develops and implements innovative multilingual digital pedagogical tools for teaching community mobilization skills in the Middle East and elsewhere.
