Congestion and safety

From: Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars?

$2.10

The fifth chapter of Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars? evaluates the three revolutions using the criteria of congestion and safety. The author demonstrates that cars of any kind will not solve issues of traffic congestion and poor use of urban space. It also discusses the inherent lack of safety involved in driving, and how driving deaths are not distributed equally among people of different racial backgrounds. The chapter concludes with an analysis of how reinvestment in public transit manages the issues of traffic congestion, urban sprawl and public safety, finding that public transit does in fact directly address and improve these issues.
