Demoviction 2016: Domicide and Redevelopment in Heron Gate
From: Resisting Eviction
$1.60
Chapter 7 examines the first phase of eviction and demolition in Heron Gate in 2016. Crosby analyzes some of the discourses surrounding demoviction, such as revitalization, relocation, and intensification. This discussion sets the stage for a deeper examination of the Vista Local redevelopment that replaced the demolished townhomes on the first demovicted parcel of land in the neighbourhood. The redevelopment’s racist underpinnings and overarching goals to harmonize Heron Gate with Alta Vista, are unpacked.
