Edgar Gold

Peter G Pamel is a partner in the Montreal office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (formerly McMaster Meighen). A lifelong Montrealer, he graduated from McGill University Law School in 1987. Mr Pamel practises exclusively in the area of maritime law, and acts as counsel to shipowners, operators, charterers, and shipping lines around the world. He is regularly appointed by P&I and FD&D clubs, as well as H&M underwriters, and regularly advises in the areas of casualty investigations, charterparty disputes, defence claims, arrest of vessels, regulatory and environmental compliance, vessel sale and finance, and general commercial activity involving marine property. He is also a leading practitioner in the area of Arctic shipping. Mr Pamel represents clients at all levels of the Canadian judiciary, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Aldo Chircop

Jean-Marie Fontaine is a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Montreal. His practice encompasses cargo claims, collisions, freight and demurrage claims, spills, shipbuilding and charterparty disputes, as well as the arrest of ships and cargos. Mr Fontaine handles non-contentious transportation matters, including the sale, purchase, and financing of ships; drafting contracts of affreightment; logistics and warehousing agreements; review of marine insurance policies; and advising on issues related to carriage of dangerous goods, coasting trade, and registration of vessels in Canada. Mr Fontaine has appeared before the Superior Court of Québec, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Québec Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also pleaded before the Canadian Transportation Agency. He holds an LLB/BCL (Hons) from McGill University, Montreal. He is the former chair of the Federal Courts Act and Rules Committee, a member of the Canadian Maritime Law Association, and the Montreal Bar Association Liaison Committee with the Federal Courts.
