Canada’s Indigenous "colours" have started to "bleed through," as increasing numbers of Native writers "paint" Native people back into the picture. This article explores one aspect of this development in particular, namely contemporary Native writers’ use of humour in engaging with Euro-Canadian history and historiography.

Eva Gruber

Eva Gruber studied English and Biology at the Universities of Heidelberg and Constance, Germany, and at the University of Guelph, Canada. She completed her PhD exams in February 2006 and is currently assistant professor of American Literature at the University of Constance. She has published on Thomas King's short fiction, on translating Native Canadian Literature into German, and on Native American adaptations of the road movie genre. Her research interests include Native North American literature, "race" and the novel of passing, and life writing/intersections of autobiography and fiction.
