The impact of Covid-19 on homeless people is discussed, along with how defunding the police and decarceration entered public discourse. Issues with overcrowded and full shelters and shelter hotels, encampment evictions and Ontario Coalition Against Poverty’s action to fight evictions are described. The author concludes that homeless encampments will remain as long as there is a financialized housing market, a dearth of rent-geared-to-income units, and tenant’s rights.
