When Scharmer joined the MIT Learning Center founded by Peter Senge, he focused on what they call learning from the emerging future as opposed to the past, “and only then did I start to tap into my best work.” Scharmer believes a connection to this deeper level of awareness — “a state with an entirely different texture and feeling” — is not only prompted by great loss but can also be spurred by social movements or a mission that makes people question why they are here, who they really are and what kind of journey they’re on.
