This chapter begins to outline the systemic discrimination, wage loss, and job insecurity that women/mothers face in Quebec and beyond, drawing on multiple examples. It critiques the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan– looking at how Quebec can improve its services for parents and in particular mothers– as well as looks at how to ensure that employers are kept accountable. The author also examines the issue of "self-exploitation."
