Michael Lynch (1944 –1991), author of the book of poetry These Waves of Dying Friends, taught English at the University of Toronto until his death from aids. He was a founder or early organizer of numerous lgbt organizations in Toronto: Gay Academic Union, Gay Fathers of Toronto, aids Committee of Toronto, Toronto Centre for Lesbian and Gay Studies, AIDS ACTION NOW! and the Toronto aids Memorial, where his poem ‘Cry’ is memorialized on an engraved plaque
