Sentinel

From: Finding Our Niche

$2.40

The sixth chapter of Finding Our Niche, Sentinel, welcomes in stories of people and communities who have invested in improving and restoring their connection to land and natural communities. Loring poses the question " Who might we be if we accept that our wellness and affluence does not have to come at the expense of the world around us?" as a driving force for the chapter. He also describes the importance of the ecological concept of a sentinel species. In answering this question, he questions affluence and show how it may be an illusion. He unpacks it further by considering how our bodies embody how we are relating to the natural world. Finally, he proposes that humans can become guardians of the natural world, as guided by Indigenous cultures, such as the Haida people in Haida Gwaii.
