Testing the Power System

From: Charging Ahead

$1.80

This chapter explores Hydro-Quebec’s current experimental projects/evolutions in the way that they are producing energy, looking at their experiments with solar, geothermal, and hydrogen energy. It examines Hydro-Quebec’s first pilot project using alternative energies conducted using the off-grid system of Quaqtaq. It then looks at how they are using the knowledge gained from this project to install the country’s first microgrid in Lac-Megantic, which has had to be rebuilt almost entirely due to the tragedy that occurred in 2013. It also touches on the issue of the "duck-curve" and variability in generation.
