Weaving a New Story of Meaning

New!

From: The Web of Meaning

$3.40

The chapter concludes that an ecological civilization will emerge only when the symbiotic linkages between people become a more powerful force than the competitive impulses engendered by the dominant culture. After surveying the increase in material well-being, global inequality, the legacy of the Scientific Revolution, the limited liability corporation, massive transnational corporations, uncontrolled emissions, and the coronavirus pandemic, the author suggests that a profusion of initiatives such as Fridays for Future, Extinction Rebellion, Earth Charter, New Confucianism, Pope Francis’ ecological philosophy, and climate emergency declarations are already laying the groundwork for a life-affirming civilization.
