On Consumed Nostalgia
From: On Nostalgia

Both nostalgia and consumerism satisfy a longing, an attempt to satisfy impossible desires. Consumerism, as in the most important role for a person is somone who buys things, and a history of consumerism from pre-insustrial revolution to the present along with associated advertising motivations to prompt purchasing is discussed. Historical and personal nostalgia and the consumerist promise of defining individuality through purchases is also discussed.
