New!

From: Gentrification Is Inevitable and Other Lies

$1.50

Chapter 2 reflects on the damage caused by the concept (or lie) that has made most people believe gentrification is a natural part of a city’s development (ie: expected, inevitable, normal). Topics include “gentrification is natural adaptation,” the naturalization of cities, urbanists use of natural metaphors in urban planning, impact of the Chicago School of urban scholars, the “Weed and Seed” program, settler colonialism in urban geography, capitalism as a part of the city, the normalizing of individualism, and the hoarding of wealth and resources.
