The fifth chapter of George Manuel’s biography picks up on Manuel’s new leadership roles and his new involvement in politics, including his election as the Neskonlith band Chief. His speeches began appearing in publications such as The Native Voice. He was invited to join the British Columbia Indian Advisory Council. However, his home life deteriorated from his years away not earning money and his wife Marceline left for a time, but the marriage was irreparable. He took a view that by continuing with politics he was building his children’s future, even if he wasn’t going to be involved directly in their lives moving forward. He took a pause from politics in 1964 to heal from his family breakup. He then got involved with a community development job.
