Gary Saunders is a forester, painter, educator, and writer. Born in Clarkes Head, Newfoundland, Saunders worked as a forester in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, along the way studying fine arts at the Ontario College of Art and Mount Allison University. A contributor to periodicals such as Atlantic Advocate, Saltscapes, Canadian Geographic, and Canadian Living, Saunders is the author of twelve works of non-fiction including Earthkeeping, Alder Music, and My Life With Trees (winner of the Evelyn Richardson Award for Non- Fiction). He lives in Clifton, Nova Scotia.
