In this chapter, Ian McKay interviews Andreas Malm about issues relating to COVID-19. Andreas Malm is an associate professor of human ecology at Lund University in Sweden. He is the author of several major books, including the prestigious Deutscher Prize–winning Fossil Capital (2016), which is a significant study of the transnational history of coal and capitalism; The Progress of This Storm (2018); How to Blow Up a Pipeline (2021); White Skin, Black Fuel (2021; with the Zetkin Collective); and Corona, Climate, Chronic Emergency (2021), which is one of the most stimulating interpretations of the pandemic.
