Children vs. Work

From: Haircuts by Children and Other Evidence for a New Social Contract

$1.70

In the second chapter, the author articulates the importance of work and the way it confers legitimacy, and then looks carefully at the distinction between exploitative and non-exploitative child labour. He then looks for examples of exploitative relationships between adults and children, which leads to an examination of which activities count as economic participation, and thus should receive some form of compensation or accounting. He concludes by arguing that children should be incorporated into the workforce, which would disrupt our sense of professionalism.
