Corporate Canada, Capitalism, and Dispossession
From: Capitalism and Dispossession
$1.80
In Chapter 1, editors Veldon Coburn and David P. Thomas introduce the objective of this collection, which is to critically examine the activities of Canadian corporations both domestically and abroad as well as to draw connections between processes of corporate accumulation in both realms. Rather than treating them as fundamentally different, the collection suggests that both exist within a global capitalist market that is creating dispossession for many. The collection argues that this is not due to a few bad corporations but instead due to the fact that the current economic system prioritizes the accumulation of profit over the well-being of people and the planet. This chapter provides chapter summaries for the rest of the book and frames the collection in two parts; Part One: Dispossession at Home and Part Two: Dispossession Abroad.
