The Emancipatory Potential of Aging
Interview with Hannah Kia
From: The Care We Dream Of
$1.00
The author interviews Hannah Kia, PhD, RCSW, an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Social Work in Vancouver, BC, whose research centres on LGBTQ/2+ aging and health, a program of study that draws on Hannah’s lived experiences as a trans woman and queer person and growing up as a newcomer in Canada. Before becoming an academic, Hannah practised as a social worker in acute care and hospice palliative care. The conversation weaves these themes together as they explore the emancipatory potential of aging and the complexities of LGBTQ/2+ aging in a context of neoliberalism.
