A majority of the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the federal Anti-Inflation Act on the ground that the government was justified in intervening in an economic crisis amounting to an emergency, while a dissenting opinion would have struck down the legislation as that part of it applying to the provincial private sector was beyond Parliament’s jurisdiction.
