In the first chapter, Kaufman opens with his own reflection on his own experiences and what brought him into the Gender Equality Movement. He then provides a brief history of the larger feminist movement and fight for gender equality, stressing that after nearly fifty years of feminist activism and organizing men still need to join the fight. Kaufman delves into theory and how to rethink and reshape the role of men in this movement, their responsibility, and leadership roles alongside women in their fight to live free from violence.
