The Way of the Peasant
From: Civilizing the State
The Way of the Peasant begins with the impact of industrial agriculture on peasant farmers in India, before focusing on the resistance to these impacts through the anti-globalization and neoliberalism organization La Via Campesina. It then looks at the impact of globalization and neoliberalism on peasants in Latin America. The chapter highlights the role of La Via Campesina of bringing food sovereignty into global argricultural discussions, as well as its methods of social organizing for change.
