Pavel K. Baev

Pavel K. Baev is a research professor at the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO); he is also affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Civil War at PRIO. After graduating from Moscow State University (M.A. in political geography, 1979), he worked in a research institute in the USSR Defense Ministry and then in the Institute of Europe, Moscow, before joining PRIO in October 1992. From 1995 to 2001 he was the editor of PRIO’s quarterly journal, Security Dialogue. His research interests include the transformation of the Russian military, the dimension of energy within Russian-European relations and the post-Soviet conflicts in the Caucasus and the greater Caspian area. His book, Russian Energy Policy and Military Power, was published by Routledge, London, in 2008.
