A Distinct Alien Race No Longer
SECTION FOUR- Tenacity and modernity
From: A Distinct Alien Race
$0.80
This chapter looks at questions of race, culture, and self-identification in the United States, and the Franco-American experience. The assumption of Franco-Americans into non-Hispanic whiteness was simultaneous with a new social context that altered the meaning of the word “race.” As the term lost its double meaning, by about 1940, Franco-Americans were a distinct alien race no longer.
