Patricia J. Martens

Patricia J. Martens is the director of the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy in the Department of Community Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and also an associate professor. Dr. Marten’s research interests include projects on the health and health care use of Manitoba’s rural and northern residents, children, and First Nations people, as well as projects on rural hospital indicators. She has also done extensive research on maternal/child health issues, including breastfeeding programs within Sagkeeng First Nation and in Manitoba’s regional health authorities. Patricia Martens is a Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator, and the 2004 recipient of the Winnipeg Rh Institute Award for high-impact health research. She directs a five-year CIHR grant called The Need To Know team, which is a collaboration of university academics as well as top-level planners from RHAs and Manitoba Health.
