She is a celebrated television, film, and stage actress, and renowned social activist. She has traveled the continent speaking in church basements and local libraries, at large public rallies, and international forums, on behalf of the Canadian Health Coalition. In Toronto, she founded a citizens’ group committed to protecting not-for-profit health services. In October 2003, she received the Order of Canada, and in 2004 she received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto.
