The Fundamental Freedoms
Chapter 3 focuses on the section of the Charter that encompasses the “fundamental freedoms”: freedom of religion, expression, assembly, and association. The Supreme Court’s decisions regarding Sunday-closing legislation, the wearing of religious symbols, and the right to strike are discussed, along with decisions on French-only signs laws in Quebec, hatespeech cases, and pornography decisions.
