The Whiteness of Medicine

New!

From: White Benevolence

$1.10

In chapter 13, Jaris Swidrovich examines how the whiteness of medicine has direct and detrimental impacts on access to care by Indigenous Peoples. Deeply rooted racism, whiteness and both previous and current colonial practices limit Indigenous Peoples’ access to both Western and traditional Indigenous medicines and approaches to health and wellness. This chapter focuses in particular on the role of pharmacists in First Nation communities, through stories and experiences shared with Swidrovich that are often entrenched in racism and whiteness.
