• Vocal tone is the most important signal you send about your state of mind, and where a conversation is going.

• Task-tone relaxes boys. It is both succinct and respectful, encouraging boys to be less defensive and more responsive.

• Eye contact should be used carefully. At moments of heightened stress or vulnerability, less eye contact is preferable. Many boys listen and hear better when eye contact is reduced.
