A majority of the Supreme Court of Canada set out a test as to when a witness who for sincere religious reasons wishes to wear a niqab while testifying in a criminal proceeding would be required to remove it. Two other judges proposed a rule against wearing a niqab at all while testifying, and a dissenting judge ruled that the witness should not be required to remove her niqab.
