Maude Barlow
Maude Barlow is the national chairperson of The Council of Canadians. She is co-founder of the Blue Planet Project to stop the commodification of the world’s water. She is a director of the San Francisco-based International Forum on Globalization and a fellow with the Washington-based Institute for Policy Studies. Maude Barlow is the author, or co-author, of fifteen books including: Too Close for Comfort: Canada’s Future Within Fortress North America (McClelland & Stewart, 2005); and Profit is Not the Cure: A Citizen’s Guide to Saving Medicare (McClelland and Stewart, 2002). She is the recipient of numerous awards and honourary doctorates. In 2005, she received the Right Livelihood Award given by the Swedish Parliament and widely referred to as “The Alternative Nobel.”
