Having passed a personality test with the emphasis focused on suitability, character, and willingness to conform to the rules, Anna Stamers enrolled in the Saint John School of Nursing and graduated in 1913. Two years after graduation Anna signed up to serve with the Canadian Army Medical Corps. The increased pay, status as an officer (Lieutenant Nursing Sister) and the opportunity to travel overseas would have been appealing. The duties of a Nursing Sister in war is outlined as well as the dreadful conditions and dreadful condition of their patients.
