What is Canadian CourseReadings?
A digital collection of over 850 Canadian-authored academic books, our website offers Canadian content and perspectives useful for undergraduate university courses and student research. Our mission is to make these readings easily discoverable and accessible to faculty and students.
We are a non-profit consortium of 28 independent Canadian publishers who want to make it easy for you to access valuable Canadian-authored content.
How do I create an account?
Good news, you have an account already thanks to your university library. In the future, make sure you visit your university library portal and login before you click a link for one of our readings or before visiting our site. Logging in to your library account authenticates you with Canadian CourseReadings.
If you can see this message, then you are logged in. Feel free to start browsing or click on the link to the reading assigned to you by an instructor.
Searching the site for material:
How do I find reading material on your site?
You can use the top of page search bar or the list of search filters on the left-hand side of the homepage.
The search bar searches title, author, book description, chapter description and subject tags.
The search filters listed have been created to reflect university departments, and the sub-categories represent key subjects and topics that are taught within those disciplines. All of our chapters have been categorized according to the courses they are likely to be taught within.
How does the “keyword” search bar work?
The keyword search bar is a tool that uses your search term to find matching results within titles and descriptions and subject tags at both the book and chapter levels.
Making use of chapters as course readings:
How do I add a chapter from the collection to my course reading list?
Simply add the permalink of the chosen chapter to your syllabus (or on the course Blackboard page). Your students can use the link to have automatic, simultaneous access to that reading and every other chapter in the collection.
How do students access their required readings?
Students can access their required reading through the permalink found within the course syllabus or on Blackboard. They will have permanent access via the link but for many chapters they can also download a PDF for their convenience.
Will I lose access to a chapter after a certain period of time? Is there a limit on downloading PDFs?
Access is unrestricted and unlimited, as long as you’re signed in to your OMNI account. There are no limitations on downloading available PDFs.
How much does it cost to access readings?
They’re free! Your university library has worked with us to provide you with this valuable resource at no cost to users for the 2025-2026 academic school year.
I’m a professor who wants to find relevant titles, but who doesn’t have the time to search. Can someone on your team help?
We are more than happy to provide you with a list of recommendations catered to your teaching interests. We even provide syllabus mapping services (for free!), where we match topics in your course outline to chapters in our collection.
